What is Nu-Pure packaging actually made from?
At Nu-Pure, we’re all about healthy hydration. Our water is sourced from specially selected pristine Australian springs, so it’s all natural. We want our water to stay pure, so we take great care in bottling it up in the right way.
We believe in being as transparent as, well, water… about the Nu-Pure production process, so we’re breaking down exactly what’s in out packaging and why.
Bottled Up
Our bottle is made from 100% recycled polyethylene terephthalate, commonly known as rPET. All plastics aren’t made equal and we chose PET for a reason. The big advantage of PET is that it is 100% recyclable. If you pop it in the recycle bin, it can have another life and be recycled again and again.
This is where our bottle comes from!
We also like PET because it’s safer, both for the environment and for you. Over its lifetime, PET has a lower carbon footprint than both glass and aluminium and poses no risk of leaching or contamination into our groundwater. It’s also BPA free. In fact, it never contained BPA in the first place – so that makes it easy.
Put a lid on it
Our bottle caps ensure the water stays sealed and pure, so we’ve been mindful of the materials we use. Our caps are made of what’s called high-density polyethylene or HDPE. We use this kind of plastic because it’s really strong – i.e. it won’t break open and flood your bag.
The good news is, these caps are recyclable. They can be separated from bottles in the recycling plants. This recycled resin can be turned into a plastic material that’s used for furniture, building products, rubbish bins, agricultural film and even playground equipment.
That’s right, the slide at the park could be made from recycled Nu-Pure bottle caps!
What about labels?
Our Nu-Pure labels are made from two types of polypropylene, they’re called OPP and BOPP. The plastics world loves an acronym. The recycled labels can be turned into a plastic material that has similar uses to the bottle caps. To recycle them, just pop the whole bottle into your recycling bin. During the washing and recycling process, labels can be removed and processed.
You might be wondering about the shrink wrap that transports our bottles. It’s made of low-density polyethylene or LDPE. We use it because it’s light, really strong and flexible, so it gets your bottles to the store safely. It is also recyclable. Recovered wrap has a range of uses, including manufacturing furniture, construction products and agricultural films.
At Nu-Pure, we’re all about balance. We want to package our product in a sustainable way, while ensuring there’s no compromise on the quality of water that’s delivered to you. This is how we strike that balance now, but we’re always striving to stay ahead of the curve when it comes to environmental packaging solutions.
